The 13th of November – International Day of the Blind

Every year on November 13, International Day of the Blind is celebrated, which is the final day of the month of the «White Cane». The event is held by the public association «Belarusian Association of Visually Impaired» (PA «BelTIZ») together with local executive and administrative bodies in order to intensify the implementation of state and regional programs, as well as to draw public attention to the problems of the visually impaired.
About 25 thousand people with visual impairments and disabilities are registered in the territorial centers of social services for the population of Belarus. The state register includes 72 names of social rehabilitation. People with visual impairments are provided with rehabilitation facilities on preferential terms. Tiflotechnical means of rehabilitation were issued to 1314 citizens for 9 months of 2021. In order to improve the competence of employees in 2021, practical seminars were held in each region to train employees of the TTSSON in the main technologies of social rehabilitation of visually impaired people.
In addition, a base of technical normative legal acts regulating the creation of an accessible environment at facilities for people with visual impairments has been formed, and the subprogram «Accessible living environment for disabled and physically impaired persons» is being implemented within the framework of the State Program «Social Protection» for 2021–2025.
Creating conditions for the full participation of people with visual impairments in society, expanding their opportunities, increasing their employment, helps to improve the way of life of these people, and also contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, 8, 10, 11 and other SDGs.
