The contribution of youth to the sustainable development of the country

International Youth Day celebrates annually on August 12th. The purpose of this day is to remind about the role of young people in the sustainable development of the world, as well as about the daily challenges that stand in their way.

None of the Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved without meaningful youth participation. According to the National Statistical Committee, there are about 1.8 million young people aged 14 to 31 living in Belarus, 14% of whom are in rural areas. A worthy example of youth participation in the sustainable development of the country is Yulia Molochko, a resident of the Bragin region. She uses innovative eco-technologies in agriculture, and is also an active participant in the «Lagodny Koshyk» initiative, which is being implemented within the framework of the project implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Economy «Support to economic development at the local level in the Republic of Belarus». Ideas and initiatives proposed and implemented by young people are an important step in the revival of the affected territories of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the sustainable development of the country.
