The National Strategy for the Development of a Circular Economy until 2035 was approved in Belarus

The National Strategy for the Development of a Closed-Cycle Economy (Circular Economy) of the Republic of Belarus for the period until 2035 was approved by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated May 29, 2024 No. 393.

The National Strategy was developed taking into account global trends and the accumulated potential of the Republic of Belarus. It is expected that a gradual transition to a circular economy will transform the basic principle of the linear model “mine, make, throw away” into the principle “mine, make, reuse”. The key mechanisms for implementing the National Strategy are long- and medium-term planning documents, including programs for the socio-economic development of the republic and regions, government and industry programs that make it possible to achieve planned indicators and expected results in priority areas: eco-design, resource-efficient production, industrial symbiosis, packaging, sharing economy. The priority sectors of the National Strategy include: industry, construction, housing and communal services, transport, agriculture and forestry, and the service sector.

The circular economy, as an active driver of economic growth while preserving the environment and rational use of natural resources, as well as taking into account the social needs of society, occupies a central place in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and also has a direct impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 15 and the other SDGs.
