The results of a sociological study in the field of demography were reviewed in Belarus

From July 1 to October 31, 2023, a sociological study in the field of demography “Family formation, stable family relationships and fertility in the changing socio-economic conditions of life of Belarusians” was conducted in Belarus. This study was the second stage of a population survey conducted in 2017.
The purpose of the study – a comparative analysis of marriage and family relationships and socio-economic conditions for the functioning of households, features of the demographic behavior of Belarusians.
According to the results of a survey of 2.7 thousand people of various gender and age groups from 18 years old and older, conducted in 2023, it was noted that in Belarusian society the value of marriage remains, both at the level of behavior and at the level of values and attitudes (the share of those who agree that marriage is an outdated phenomenon – 11.4%). At the same time, 65% of Belarusians agree that divorce is acceptable. 48.8% of respondents agree with the statement that a woman needs children to feel complete. 43.5% say that it is necessary for a man to have children. 75.6% agree with the statement that children need a home and both parents to be happy. 42.7% of respondents do not agree that preschool children suffer if their mothers work.
The study was conducted within the framework of an international technical assistance project “Strengthening the scientific and educational potential of the Republic of Belarus in the field of collection, analysis and use of demographic data to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals” implemented with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The results of the study will make it possible to identify the characteristics of marriage and family relationships and demographic behavior of Belarusians, as well as to develop recommendations for improving the state family and demographic policy of the country.
