The role of renewable energy is growing in Belarus

The role of energy saving and energy efficiency in combination with the production of environmentally friendly energy is increasing every year in the Republic of Belarus. At the same time, special attention is paid to automation and digitalization of technological processes.

The country has 514 MW of electric capacity of installations for the use of renewable energy sources (RES). It is expected that by 2024 this figure will be about 700 MW, which is equivalent to 7% of the installed capacity of the Belarusian energy system. In the production of thermal energy, the share of renewable energy sources over the past 10 years has almost doubled from 6.1% to 11.8%. In the structure of electricity production, renewable energy sources account for 2.4%.

The construction and integration of renewable energy sources into the country’s energy system makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 11, 13 and other SDGs.
