Up to 90% of solid municipal waste will be used in Belarus by 2035

The issues of improving the efficiency of work with municipal solid waste and secondary material resources remain relevant on the agenda of the Belarusian government.

From 2010 to 2021, the volume of collection of secondary material resources increased by almost 2.5 times, and the level of use of municipal solid waste more than 3 times. Today, the country uses 29% of municipal solid waste and introduces approaches to the production of RDF fuel. The line for the use of RDF fuel has already been built at «Krasnoselskstroymateriallari», and a project in Grodno is at the completion stage. Belarus also plans to build 16 waste sorting plants by the end of 2025.

Taking into account the measures taken, it is predicted to increase the level of use of municipal solid waste in the total volume of their generation up to 64% by 2025, 70% by 2030, 90% by 2035.

Efficient waste management makes a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.
