Orsha will become the cultural capital of Belarus in 2022

The board of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus held a meeting on May 20, 2021, which considered the issue of choosing the city of Belarus, which in 2022 will be awarded the status of “Cultural Capital of the Year”.

The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus considered the applications and presentation materials from six cities of the country. The city of Orsha became the winner of the status in 2022.

The national campaign “Cultural Capital of the Year” has been held since 2010. Its goals are presentation of cultural identity of cities and regions of the Republic of Belarus, creating conditions for their social and economic development through the sphere of culture.
 
Preservation of the cultural heritage in the cities is a contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 11 “Sustainable cities and settlements”.
