The first batch of unusable pesticides was removed from storages in the Minsk region

On December 14, 2023, as part of the implementation of the international technical assistance project «Sustainable management of persistent organic pollutants and chemicals in the Republic of Belarus, GEF-6», the removal of unusable pesticides from storages of agricultural organizations began in the Minsk region.
During the removal process, waste of hazard classes 1-2, located in storages, is repackaged, weighed and, in compliance with safe cross-border transportation, delivered to specialized enterprises, where they are environmentally safe to neutralize. The first 20 tons of toxic waste left the storage of OJSC «Slutsk Agroservice». By the end of April 2024, about 600 tons of unusable pesticides will be removed from the Minsk region.
To date, 21 storages in the Vitebsk and Grodno regions have been completely cleared of hazardous waste – this is about 920 tons.
The elimination of unusable pesticides from the territory of the country makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.
