Unique inclusive project “Touching Hall” – a mobile informational and educational art platform of cultural and aesthetic education for the blind and visually impaired – is being implemented in Mogilev.
The project opens new horizons for persons with visual disabilities, giving them the opportunity to touch the culture and history of the architectural heritage of Belarus and understand what they look like in reality.
Information about the objects is presented in the form of audio tours in sound and printed formats, including the use of enlarged and relief-dot fonts, 3D-models of exhibits, as well as special editions with Braille. Currently, there have been developed 3D models of the Mogilev Town Hall, Kholmskie Gates, Brest Fortress-Hero Memorial Complex, Polotsk St. Sophia Cathedral, Myrski Castle, Victory Monument in Minsk, the chapel at the memorial complex “Buynichskoye Pole”, the sculpture “Unconquered Man”, the Khatyn Memorial Complex, the National Library of Belarus. The audio tours can be found on the YouTube channel of the Mogilev regional organization of the public association “Beltiz”.
The work on the project will be continued. It is planned to expand the number of models and conduct field trips to the regions of Mogilev region and other cities of Belarus. The project plans to publish books by contemporary Belarusian writers in Braille, which will allow blind and visually impaired readers to become full participants in the literary process. There are also plans to publish a collection of poems written by persons with visual disabilities.
The project is implemented by the Children’s Library-branch No. 2 of Mogilev in partnership with the Mogilev regional organization of the NGO “Beltiz”, MC “Centralized System of State Public Libraries of Mogilev”, Belarusian-Russian University.
The implementation of the “Touching Hall” project contributes to the holistic perception of the surrounding world by persons with visual disabilities and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 10 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
