Warehouses of the Vitebsk region are completely freed from unsuitable pesticides

On April 26, 2023, the last batch of obsolete pesticides was sent from a warehouse near the village of Dernovichi, Polotsk region, for environmentally safe destruction. As a result, the warehouses of the Vitebsk region were completely freed from unsuitable pesticides stored there.
Prior to the implementation of the international technical assistance project «Sustainable Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants and Chemicals in the Republic of Belarus, GEF-6», the total weight of obsolete pesticides in the warehouses of agricultural organizations in Belarus was more than 1,400 tons. To date, 21 warehouses in the Vitebsk and Grodno regions have been freed from this hazardous waste – about 920 tons. There are still about 500 tons left in the Minsk region, which are planned to be transported from the country by the end of April 2024.
The elimination of persistent organic pollutants from the territory of the country makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.
