On November 5-7, 2025, the 16th meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators was held in Kitakyushu (Japan). The Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus (Belstat) Alexey Yarkovets took part in the event.During the thematic discussions, Alexey Yarkovets shared the key achievements and strategic approaches of the Republic of Belarus in the field of SDG monitoring. He emphasized the systematic work of the Belstat and the republican government bodies, which had achieved impressive results in ensuring information transparency.
“The availability of data on the SDG indicators is 95%, and for 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, 100% data availability has been achieved,” the Deputy Chairperson of the Belstat informed.
Presenting the experience of the SDG localization, Alexey Yarkovets focused on the unique regional approach developed in the Republic of Belarus: “The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus has compiled the regional list of SDG indicators reflecting national priorities and supplemented with indicators that take into account the specifics of the development of a particular region. It includes 138 indicators.”
He also noted that the regional list is harmonized with the National Platform for Reporting Indicators of the SDGs. The indicators of the regional list make it possible to ensure, for the most part, their disaggregation not only in 6 regions and Minsk, but also in all 118 regions of the country.
SDG monitoring and reporting at various levels contributes to accelerating the achievement of the SDGs, strengthening partnerships, and effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The participation of the Belstat representative in the 16th meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Belarus within the framework of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
