II Republican Meeting of Silver Age Volunteers took place in Mogilev

Within the framework of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of the Sustainable Development Goals”, implemented by UN agencies and financed by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), organized the II Republican Meeting of Silver Age Volunteers. The event took place on December 5, 2023 in Mogilev. About 200 of the most active representatives of silver age volunteers from all regions of the country, as well as representatives of government bodies, professional speakers and experts took part in the Meeting.

At the event, each of the teams shared their experience of volunteering with colleagues from other regions. Participants learned about various areas of volunteering, and gained new knowledge that will allow them to continue their active participation in the life of society, thus contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. A1 specialists conducted a training session on Internet security. IPA “Mutual Understanding” presented the volunteer environmental initiative «Clean Games» for separate waste collection. In addition, for the first time, participants were able to get acquainted with neurogymnastics for the prevention of dementia, which is accessible without special medical education.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, by 2050 the percentage of people aged 65 and over in the country will reach 26.4% (for comparison, today this figure is 16.8%). Elderly people become an active part of society and should have equal opportunities to realize themselves in accordance with their values and ideas. Belarus has adopted the National Strategy “Active Longevity – 2030”, aimed at stimulating longer working life, providing opportunities for lifelong learning, creating conditions for active longevity, social activity, including volunteerism among older people, etc.
