On February 12, 2026, Vladislav Tatarinovich, National Coordinator for Achieving the SDGs, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Belarus, and the UN Country Team visited the Minsk region to discuss priority areas of sustainable development. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus, the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, the Logoysk District Executive Committee, enterprises and organizations of the Minsk region, and local media also took part in the working visit.
The program included a visit to objects of socio-economic, historical and cultural significance of the Logoysk district. The delegation visited the memorial in the Ivanovshchyna tract, the Kindergarten No. 5 in Logoysk, the JSC AMKODOR‑LESMASH, Social Boarding House “Nadezhny Bereg” and the Logoysk Local History Museum named after Konstantin and Evstafy Tyshkevich.
The event continued in the format of the round table “Partnership for the Implementation of the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Minsk Region”, which was held in Logoysk.
Opening the round table, Vladislav Tatarinovich, National Coordinator for Achieving the SDGs, noted Belarus’ efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the country’s high progress in achieving the SDGs. To coordinate work in this area, the Presidential Decree established the status of the National Coordinator for Achieving the SDGs, formed the Council for Sustainable Development, developed the National Strategy for Sustainable Development until 2040, the Program of Socio-economic Development for 2026-2030 and other strategic and programmatic documents. In addition, modern technologies for collecting and distributing information have been introduced, the data exchange process has been automated to track the dynamics of indicators, and a guide has been prepared for evaluating draft regulatory legal acts for compliance with the SDGs.
“We are setting the same ambitious goals for ourselves, so that in the new program documents for the next five years, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals will be reflected through specific activities,” said the National Coordinator for Achieving the SDGs.
The National Coordinator for Achieving the SDGs also stressed the importance of localizing the SDGs and the relevance of conducting working visits to the regions to strengthen the partnership between the UN Country Team and regional authorities.
Denis Kurlenko, Deputy Chairperson of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, presented the main directions of development of the Minsk region, defined in the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Minsk Region until 2040 (RSSD), developed with the support of the UNDP as part of the international technical assistance project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” funded by the Government of the Russian Federation. Denis Kurlenko noted the close alignment of the document with the National Strategy for Sustainable Development until 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Thus, the RSSD of the Minsk region includes five priorities:
Denis Kurlenko also announced the completion of work on the development of a Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the Minsk region until 2030 and strategies for the districts of the Minsk region for the medium term, considering their specifics.
“These documents include the main activities, facilities that will be implemented or put into operation within three years, including agricultural, social, and infrastructural facilities. There are measures for the development of settlements, regional centers and agro-towns. We have distributed them by year and identified the sources of funding. There are industry strategies where each regulator has its own document for three years and is linked to regional strategies,” said Denis Kurlenko.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee noted the significant contribution of the region to the sustainable development of the country and highlighted confidence in its further growth and potential.
Representatives of UN agencies in the Republic of Belarus outlined key areas of work in the Minsk region, provided information on ongoing projects and expressed confidence in continued cooperation, including in other regions of Belarus.

Rasul Baghirov, UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Belarus, noting the wide participation in the event of representatives of government agencies, business, public organizations, youth and the UN Country Team, highlighted the importance of intersectoral and intergenerational dialogue for the implementation of the SDGs, especially at the regional level. The Framework Program for Cooperation between the United Nations and the Republic of Belarus in the Field of Sustainable Development for 2026-2030 is synchronized with national priorities and attaches particular importance to the localization of the SDGs. Strengthening cooperation at the local level is of strategic importance for the successful implementation of the Framework Program. In this regard, the experience of the Minsk region can serve as a guideline for the localization of the SDGs, creating a basis for joint work.
Renfei Liu, UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Belarus, emphasized that the RSSD of the Minsk region is an ambitious roadmap developed by the region’s leadership with the support of the UNDP. The priorities identified in the RSSD are fully consistent with the UNDP mandate and the UNDP Country Programme for 2026-2030. Over the past five years, UNDP has provided extensive support in the Minsk region in such areas as building an inclusive and innovative economy, human development, environmental safety and sustainable environmental management. Renfei Liu noted UNDP willingness to work on expanding areas of cooperation through the provision of technical assistance and international expertise.
Rustam Haydarov, UNICEF Representative in the Republic of Belarus, noted that the visit to Kindergarten No. 5 in Logoysk was a vivid confirmation of how conditions are being created in Belarus for the comprehensive development of children and inclusive education, allowing children with special needs to be full participants in the educational process and public life.UNICEF continues to support the region in such areas as the promotion of inclusive education, the expansion of the Cities Friendly to Children and Adolescents initiative, the development of early intervention services and teen-friendly centers providing health services to children and adolescents, as well as strengthening child protection practices. Rustam Haydarov highlighted that expanding cooperation at the local level is one of the priorities of the UNICEF Country Programme for 2026-2030, therefore, UNICEF intends to continue to actively support fruitful cooperation with the Minsk region aimed at ensuring the well-being of every child.
Olga Atroshchanka, Head of the UNFPA Office in the Republic of Belarus, noted Belarus’ significant achievements in implementing a comprehensive demographic policy and developing a reproductive health system, emphasizing their compliance with the priorities of the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Minsk Region until 2040.In her presentation, she stressed that UNFPA initiatives to strengthen the capacity of specialists in early detection of cervical and breast cancer, develop a regional SDG data system, create an evidence base to improve care for people, and promote active longevity create a solid foundation for further expanding partnerships with regional authorities and organizations. The development of the Parent-Friendly Companies initiative to create opportunities for uncompromising combination of professional development and responsible parenting and the development of the volunteer movement among older and younger people, creating a generational bridge, are identified as promising areas. In conclusion, it was noted that the practical results presented during the visit could serve as model solutions for the countries of the EECA region and beyond.
Magdalena Aguilar Pulido, Head of the UNHCR Office in the Republic of Belarus, expressed UNHCR’s interest in becoming more actively involved in activities aimed at increasing access for refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons to the labor market and social protection system of the Republic of Belarus, thus supporting the country’s efforts to achieve the SDGs and implement the principle of “Leave No One Behind”.
Lilia Sabirova, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus, noted the fruitful cooperation of the Russian Federation with the Republic of Belarus in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, the implementation of the international technical assistance project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”, funded by the Russian Federation and other international projects, and also confirmed the readiness of the Russian Federation to continue cooperation in this direction.
In 2025, with the support of the UNDP, 21 pilot initiative of the SDG were implemented in all regions of Belarus. Irina Sukhotskaya, Head of the organizational Department of the central department of the Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired, shared her experience and presented the results of the pilot initiative “Training Visually Impaired Individuals in Adaptive Sports: SHOWDOWN” in the Minsk region. As part of the initiative 72 people with visual impairments were trained to play SHOWDOWN, 16 referee-coaches were trained to conduct games and competitions. In addition, the national SHOWDOWN tournament was held with the participation of 33 people with visual impairments.
Victoria Barisevich, Head of the Ecosystem Development Department at Belagroprombank, presented key areas of business support in the Minsk region, including the development of startup projects, initiatives to support women’s and youth entrepreneurship, as well as the activities of attraction centers “iGrow — I’m Growing” operating in the region.
Tamara Krasovskaya, Chairperson of the Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, introduced the participants of the round table to the system of social support for vulnerable categories of the population, informed about the directions of state social support for vulnerable categories of the population, and also presented current state support measures, targeted support mechanisms and integrated approaches to support families, the elderly and citizens who find themselves in a difficult life situation.
Alla Karpeychik, ophthalmologist at the Krupskaya Central District Hospital, member of the Youth Council at the Minsk Regional Council of Deputies, based on her own professional experience, presented examples of youth initiatives in the context of the 2030 Agenda to the audience, and highlighted the implementation of the youth policy of the Republic of Belarus at the local level aimed at unlocking the potential of young citizens and their comprehensive development.
It is expected that the proposals and comments received during the working visit to the Minsk region will contribute to the implementation of the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Minsk region until 2040 and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the Republic of Belarus.
The round table “Partnership for the Implementation of the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Minsk region” was organized by the Minsk Regional Executive Committee with the support of the UNDP within the framework of the international technical assistance project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
