Steering Committee meeting of the SDG Project was held in Minsk

On February 4, 2025, the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” was held in Minsk. The Project is being implemented under the leadership of the National Coordinator for Achieving the SDGs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus with the participation of UN agencies, in close cooperation with government agencies and with the financial support of the Government of the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, the participants reviewed the results of the Joint Project in 2025 and the Project’s work plan for 2026, as well as shared their vision of Project activities to support the national architecture for managing the process of achieving the SDGs after 2026.

Igor Sekreta, Co-Chair of the Project Steering Committee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, highly appreciated the work carried out within the framework of the Project.

“In general, I highly appreciate the work carried out within the framework of the Project, almost all the activities planned for 2025 have been implemented, quite ambitious tasks have been set for 2026, and the team is professional and efficient,” Igor Sekreta said.

Rasul Baghirov, UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Belarus, emphasized the effectiveness of 2025 thanks to the coordinated work of the UN Country Team, government agencies and the UN Global Compact.He also said that Framework Program for Cooperation between the United Nations and the Republic of Belarus in the Field of Sustainable Development for 2026-2030 has already been signed, fully consistent with national strategies and plans for socio‑economic development.

Piotr Frolov, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus, noted that the Project’s activities corresponded to the interests of both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, and confirmed his intention to continue partnership.

Following the meeting, the participants confirmed their interest in further cooperation and expressed their willingness to continue working together to implement the 2030 Agenda.
