Resolution No. 444 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated August 18, 2025,<\/a> approved the Strategy for the Management of Industrial and Consumer Waste in the Republic of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strategy was developed to form an integrated waste management system aimed at ensuring a waste utilization rate of at least 90% by 2040, considering the principle of carbon neutrality. The goals and objectives of the approved Strategy will be achieved in three five-year phases, including the implementation of government, investment and other programs, including regional, sectoral, plans, schemes, legislative acts and other documents related to waste management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the document provides for the adoption of a number of measures to achieve the targets set out in the Strategy. Thus, a single state body will be identified that regulates and controls waste management and common approaches to the management of consumer and industrial waste, similar to waste from the vital activity of the population, will be developed. It is planned to improve the legislative framework, accounting systems, collection, sorting and disposal of waste. It is supposed to limit the excessive use of packaging in the production of goods, and encourage the use of environmentally safe (recyclable) packaging. It is planned to develop a system for the energy use of waste and economically stimulate its use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The implementation of the provisions of the Strategy for the Management of Industrial and Consumer Waste in the Republic of Belarus will make an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 12<\/a>, 13<\/a> and the other SDGs.
