Short description

The women’s initiative to create a marketing and cheese-making center “Malochny Kuferak” is an example of sustainable development of local agricultural production and alternative ways of employment in rural areas. The main goal of the initiative is to increase the marketing attractiveness and promote the products of private farms: local dairy brands of the Krasnopolsky, Slavgorodsky and Cherikovsky districts. The activity was supported by national, regional and local governments, international organizations and foundations, the media and the local community.

    CONTENTS OF THE ACTIVITY

    The marketing and cheese-making center “Malochny Kuferak” was created at the end of 2021 on the basis of the consumer cooperative “Mountain Treasure” in the agricultural town Gory and is located in an adapted building of the former complex reception center, which has undergone energy-efficient modernization. Basic services include the production and sale of various types of farm cheese, the organization of training programs and master classes on cheese making for the locals, the support and development of small businesses and self-employment in rural areas through a cooperative association and the provision of new jobs.

    In addition, the center actively participates in the cultural life of the region, organizing and supporting various events and activities aimed at strengthening the local community and promoting sustainable production practices.

    KEY STEPS OF IMPLEMENTATION:

    • Adaptation and modernization of an existing building for industrial and energy efficient needs. Installation of solar panels to provide sustainable energy to the production process. Conducting information, educational and practical events on the use and implementation of low-carbon technologies in economic activities at the Center.
    • Creation of a recognizable brand, interaction with other regions and exchange of experience. Development and promotion of the brand “Regiyanalny Malochny Kuferak”. Cooperation with cheese makers from other areas to exchange experiences and recipes, enrich the range of products.
    • Development and launch of an online platform, social networks. Creation of an online platform for the promotion and sale of cheeses under the brand “Regijanalny Malochny Kuferak”, as well as for the provision of educational materials and master classes on cheese making. Product promotion through social networks.

    The main challenges for the initiative are the need to develop production and sales channels to meet growing demand, which will require additional resources and operational improvements, maintaining environmental principles and product purity with further expansion.

    RESULTS AND IMPACT OF THE INITIATIVE

    The launch of the center and the development of the brand “Regianalny Malochny Kuferak” significantly increased the availability and variety of high-quality local cheeses, expanding the sales market beyond the region.

    The cooperative “Mountain Treasure” coordinates and administers the work of more than 20 cheese makers and small family farms from the Cherikovsky, Slavgorodsky and Krasnopolsky districts.

    Every year the center hosts more than 20 master classes on the production of various types of cheese, to which everyone is invited.

    More than 50 local residents from the Krasnopolsky district began to engage in cheese-making.
