Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”

The international technical assistance project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” was approved by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated December 27, 2022 № 918 and registered in the database of international technical assistance programs and projects on December 28, 2022 № 2/22/ 001160. Implementation period of the Joint Project is from December 28, 2022 to December 31, 2025.

The Joint Project is being implemented by UN agencies (UN Development Program, UN Children’s Fund, UN Population Fund and World Health Organization) together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and other government bodies and organizations with financial support from the Russian Federation. The National Director of the Joint Project is the National SDG Coordinator. For the purposes of strategic guidance and management of the implementation of the Joint Project, a Steering Committee was created, consisting of representatives of government bodies, UN agencies, the donor and a representative of the Partnership Group for Sustainable Development. The Steering Committee is co-chaired by the National SDG Coordinator and the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Belarus.

The goal of the Joint Project is to assist the Republic of Belarus in nationalization and localization of the Sustainable Development Goals by solving the following tasks:

Task 1: Support to operation of the National institutional mechanism for achieving the SDGs;

Task 2: Facilitation of the process of incorporating the SDGs into the regional planning system;

Task 3: Support to operation and improvement of the system for collecting, monitoring and evaluating the SDG data.

The Joint Project is aimed at strengthening the capacity of decision-makers on SDG issues at the national and regional levels, developing a methodological framework for decision-making based on the SDGs, popularizing the principles and ideas of sustainable development, localizing the SDGs and incorporating the 2030 Agenda into the planning and forecasting system, as well as improving the system for collecting, monitoring and evaluating the SDG data. Much attention in the project will be paid to the issues of education for sustainable development and the involvement of citizens in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, as well as supporting the dialogue between the state and the public on sustainable development.
