RESULTS AND IMPACT OF THE INITIATIVE
In order to develop a model of comprehensive environmental education, a number of measures have been implemented to improve environmental awareness and sustainable development of local communities.
A local center for environmental education was created on the basis of the educational institution “Trab Nursery-Garden – Secondary School”. The educational institution was awarded the status of “Green School”. The center is equipped with demonstration stands and simulators for visual and effective training of students and visitors.
Information boards were installed on the territory of the village, which tell about the natural potential of the region and modern environmental challenges, providing convenient access to important information for both locals and tourists.
Comprehensive cleaning and improvement activities on the coastal strip of the Kleva River were conducted, including the construction of covered gazebos and canopies, the installation of barbecues, waste sorting containers, swings and carousels for children, changing rooms, volleyball court. This contributed to the improvement of the environmental situation and the creation of favorable conditions for recreation. Also, The Kleva River was stocked with fish to increase the sustainability of the Neman-Baltic Sea water system.
The active involvement of the local population, schoolchildren and volunteers in the process of environmental education and environmental protection activities not only contributed to the achievement of the immediate goals of the initiative, uniting the local community around the idea of sustainable interaction with nature, but also made it possible to develop a practice-oriented approach to creating a working model of comprehensive environmental education for local communities.
