Belstat presented Belarus’s experience in ensuring data quality at the CIS International Statistical Forum

6 October 2026

On October 1–2, 2026, the IV International Statistical Forum of the CIS “New Methods and Technologies in Statistics” will be held in Yerevan. The main topic of the event was the discussion of the transformation of official statistics under the influence of digitalization, the development of information technologies, and the emergence of new data sources.

Belarus was represented at the forum by Timofey Zhigarev, First Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus (Belstat), Tatyana Maksimova, Head of the Main Directorate for Coordination and Development of the Statistical System, and Yuri Chernyavsky, Head of the Main Directorate for Information Technologies.

In his presentation on the Belarusian experience in assessing data quality, Timofey Zhigarev noted that the development of the statistical sector is linked to the need to address large‑scale tasks, including the integration of big data and a significant acceleration of information processing. At the same time, he said, special attention should be paid to ensuring the high quality of the data, as this is the foundation of trust in official statistics.

In accordance with international standards and recommendations, Belstat has established a unified data quality management system. A toolkit has been developed to assess the quality of state statistical observations, and work is underway to evaluate administrative data both from the perspective of its owners and from the perspective of state statistical bodies.

Furthermore, Belstat is developing approaches to assess the quality of government data contained in government information systems. It was noted that the results of this work will become an important informational resource for further improving the processes of collecting, processing, and using data from various sources, and will also contribute to enhancing the efficiency of public administration based on high‑quality statistical information.

The participation of Belarusian specialists in the IV International Statistical Forum of the CIS “New Methods and Technologies in Statistics” contributes to the exchange of professional experience with the global community, as well as to the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
