27 November 2023
On November 23, 2023, as part of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”, implemented by UN agencies and funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, a seminar on preventing and reducing negative demographic consequences was held in Minsk. The event was organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus.
During the seminar, representatives of government agencies and the scientific community discussed government policy measures in the field of preserving the population and labor resources in the context of population decline and aging.
In Belarus, improving the demographic potential of the population consists of three interrelated components:
In order to mitigate negative trends in demographic development, the country is implementing the Program of Socio-Economic Development until 2025, as well as a number of government programs. At the same time, international experience in effectively addressing demographic development issues is also important for Belarus.
Demographic development represents one of the most important characteristics for socio-economic development and well-being of the population, as well as for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
