Belarusian delegation took part in the III International Statistical Forum of the CIS

On September 24-26, 2025, Baku (Republic of Azerbaijan) hosts the III International Statistical Forum of the CIS. The topic of the forum is “Prospects for the development of statistics: the role of international projects.” Experts from 16 countries and 10 international organizations are taking part in the event. The Republic of Belarus is represented at the forum by a delegation headed by the Chairman of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus (Belstat) By Inna Medvedeva.

During the session “Reforms and Prospects for the development of Statistics,” Inna Medvedeva presented the experience of developing industry statistics, identified priority areas for improving statistical production, informed about the introduction of international standards and the creation of a data management system in the Republic of Belarus, as well as the implementation of initiatives to create a digital environment.

At the forum’s section “System of National Accounts 2025” Head of the Main Department of National Accounts of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Irina Sergeichenko presented the report “Prospects for the implementation of the main directions of the SNA-2025: the first steps”. She informed that the Republic of Belarus has started implementing the main directions of the 2025 SNA, adopted in March at the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission as an international statistical standard. To this end, information and educational activities have already been launched in the country, an interdepartmental working group will be created, and the information collection system will be improved. It is also planned to develop a new OKED, a nationwide classifier of economic activities, considering current global and regional approaches in this area.

The Head of the Main Department for International Cooperation and Dissemination of Statistical Information of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Elena Kondratenko made a presentation on “Interaction with custodial agencies in the framework of SDG monitoring: the experience of the Republic of Belarus” in the section “SDG Statistics – half of the way”. In her speech, she informed that currently the National List of SDG Indicators includes 246 indicators, of which 172 correspond to the global list and 72 reflect national characteristics and development priorities. The level of accessibility of indicators in Belarus is 95%, and progress towards achieving the SDGs exceeds 80%.

Elena Kondratenko noted that it is important to adhere to the following basic principles during SDG monitoring:

  • give priority to official national sources of information
  • use open, reliable and verifiable sources
  • exclude calculations of indicators whose methodology is opaque or inconsistent with global methodologies for calculating SDG indicators.

The CIS International Statistical Forum contributes to improving the quality of statistical information collection and interpretation to address modern economic and social challenges, which makes an important contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The participation of the Belarusian delegation in the III International Statistical Forum of the CIS was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
