On October 2-3, 2025, Minsk hosted the II International Forum on Healthy and Active Longevity “Health, Career, Recreation, Family”.
The purpose of the Forum is to explore advanced approaches and innovative solutions in the field of active and healthy longevity, as well as to develop international cooperation to improve the quality of life of older people.
The Forum brought together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners from the countries of the Eurasian region to share experiences, technologies, and best practices, as well as discuss the possibilities of organizing partner projects for active and healthy longevity and improving the quality of life of older people.
On the first day of the Forum, a plenary session and sections were organized on innovations for active longevity, the social well-being of the elderly, and progressive approaches to comprehensive support. On the second day, there will be a round table to discuss specific ideas for joint projects, as well as visits to social infrastructure facilities in Belarus.
The “maturation” of the population is a global demographic trend that has swept most countries of the world and is the result of significant achievements in the fields of medicine, science and social development. According to UN forecasts, by 2050, the proportion of people 65 years and older in the world may reach 16%, in Europe — 28%. Belarus is no exception. The share of older people aged 65+ is 17.2%, and by 2050, almost one in three residents of the country will exceed 65 years of age, and their share will amount to 26.4%.
Preparation and adaptation to demographic changes can not only prevent the burden on healthcare and pension provision, but also create the prerequisites for economic and social well-being that a healthy, active and financially independent population of the “silver” age can bring to society.
Today, the Republic of Belarus has built an effective and sustainable system of social services for older people, providing them with access to the necessary support and social services. Today, the Republic of Belarus has built an effective and sustainable system of social services for older people, providing them with access to the necessary support and social services. State social standards in the fields of healthcare and social services have been introduced and are working. The National Strategy of the Republic of Belarus “Active Longevity — 2030” has been implemented since 2021.
Belarus can serve as an example of many useful solutions. Among them is the creation and development of a sustainable system for providing care for the elderly at home, as well as round—the-clock care for those in need in social institutions. In each district there is a territorial center for social services of the population, where conditions are created for practicing various sports, creativity and other leisure activities. The volunteer movement is organized and supported — more than 5,000 older people are already “silver” volunteers. A retirement preparation course has been developed that covers various aspects of health, financial well-being, and the social environment. Additional funded insurance programs are being developed, which is important for the economic independence of the elderly. Special emphasis is placed on the development of intergenerational programs, actions and projects.
At the same time, Belarus is interested in applying integrated international experience to improve the quality of life of the older generation, because population aging is a demographic trend common to many countries around the world. The Republic actively participates in the implementation of international documents in the field of human rights and active aging, and also applies methods to implement programs for active longevity, healthy lifestyle, and social integration of older citizens.
The II International Forum on Healthy and Active Longevity “Health, Career, Recreation, Family” was organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus, the Belarusian Association of Social Workers and the Department of Humanitarian Affairs of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus.
More information about the Forum is posted on its official website.
