On April 3-4, 2025, as part of the pilot initiative “Training Visually Impaired Individuals in Adaptive Sports: SHOWDOWN”, a training seminar was held in Minsk to train referees-coaches to play table tennis for the blind persons SHOWDOWN, as well as to work with persons with visual disabilities.
The training was attended by 16 people from all regions of Belarus. For two days, the seminar participants learned the rules of the SHOWDOWN game in theory and practice, learned to keep minutes, and analyzed the nuances of the arbitration procedure.
At the end of the training, the participants of the seminar-training passed a written test, received certificates and the rules of the SHOWDOWN game, including printed in Braille.
The next stage of the initiative will be to organize training seminars on playing SHOWDOWN for persons with visual disabilities in the regions of the Republic of Belarus.
The pilot initiative “Training Visually Impaired Individuals in Adaptive Sports: SHOWDOWN” is implemented by the Belarusian Society of the Visually Impaired (NGO) with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
Implementation of the initiative’s activities contributes to the socialization of persons with visual disabilities through training in the SHOWDOWN game of table tennis and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8, 10 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
