The World Health Organization classifies all cardiovascular and oncological diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes as the main types of noncommunicable diseases. 8 out of 10 deaths both in the world and in the Republic of Belarus are associated with noncommunicable diseases.
The most effective preventive measures against noncommunicable diseases are beyond the competence of medical workers and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. This concerns the regulation of food sales, urban planning, the promotion of physical activity, the regulation of tobacco and alcohol circulation. Changing people’s behavior toward healthier lifestyles is often far more effective than health care efforts to save patients from noncommunicable diseases that have already occurred.
On August 26-30, 2024, a training session “Technologies for managing public health in the implementation of sustainable development strategies” for heads of healthcare organizations is held at the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel of the Educational Institution “Belarusian State Medical University”.
The training program is aimed at developing new knowledge and skills on the theoretical foundations of public health and healthcare, as well as organizing events to implement the Sustainable Development Goals at the national and regional levels, in particular the SDG 3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”.
The training was organized by the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel of the Educational Institution “Belarusian State Medical University” with the support of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
