In April-July 2025, as part of the SDG pilot initiative “Regional Information Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities – Assistance in Exercising and Protecting Their Rights”, four working meetings were held in the Gomel region to discuss the development of an accessible environment, coordination of actions between services and improvement of infrastructure solutions in the districts of the Gomel region.
More than 180 people took part in the discussions Among them – representatives of project organizations, structural divisions of architecture, housing and communal services, labor and social protection of the district executive and administrative bodies of Mozyr, Kalinkovichi, Yelsky, Narovlyansky, Zhlobinsky, Rogachevsky, Buda-Koshelevsky and Gomel districts, as well as representatives of the Central, Soviet, Zheleznodorozhny, Novobelitsky districts and Gomel.
During the meeting, participants discussed strengthening interdepartmental cooperation, as well as topical issues related to the development of an accessible environment, improving infrastructure and improving the quality of services for the population. Participants shared their experiences, identified key challenges, and considered possible solutions that would improve field performance. In addition, attention was paid to the coordination of actions between services, the introduction of modern approaches in the design and operation of facilities, as well as the need for systematic consideration of the needs of various groups of the population.
These meetings have become an important stage in strengthening professional dialogue and developing a unified approach to the development of Gomel region territories, which will contribute to a better and coordinated solution of socially significant issues in the region.
Working meetings were organized as part of the SDG pilot initiative “Regional Information Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities – Assistance in Exercising and Protecting Their Rights” implemented by the Gomel Regional NGO for Disabled Persons with Impaired Musculoskeletal Function “Disabled Persons with Spinal Injurie” with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus as part of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
The implementation of the SDG pilot initiative contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8, 10, 11 and the other SDGs.
