Issues of regional development were considered at the meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development

21 April 2022

On April 21, 2022, a thematic meeting of the Council on Sustainable Development was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program. The meeting was timed to coincide with the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Disaster.

During the meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development, participants discussed the results and prospects for further cooperation in the field of regional development of Belarus.

Supporting regional development is one of the key strategic directions within the framework of current and future cooperation between UNDP and Belarus. The contribution of international partners to solving practical problems of ensuring sustainable development contributes to the development of economic and human potential and is relevant both for Belarus as a whole and for regions of the country, including areas affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster.  Over 30 years of cooperation, the Republic of Belarus has achieved significant results in the field of regional development, namely in matters of supporting entrepreneurship, healthcare, education and youth work, conservation of natural resources and cultural heritage.

The results of the discussion within the Council for Sustainable Development will be used in the work of the government and UNDP to improve bilateral partnership mechanisms in order to promote the sustainable development of the regions of Belarus.
